Why is my roof leaking?

Why is my roof leaking?

Whether your home is old or new, the last thing a homeowner wants is a roof leak. While there could be one of a dozen reasons why your roof may be leaking, the first and most challenging step is figuring out the cause of that specific drip of water.

In an effort to save your investment, Elevation Roofing and Restoration have enlisted the most common causes of roof leaks and their solutions.

1 - Building materials.

As a homeowner, you are responsible for safeguarding your home and everything inside it from severe weather and damage. Choosing the proper building materials can prolong the lifespan of your roof.

2- Clogged gutters.

Since leaves, sticks, and other debris can clog your gutters, you must always check them after hurricanes, strong winds, storms, and other significant weather events.

3- Missing or damaged shingles.

Extreme weather can cause severe damage to those asphalt shingle roofing systems. On the other hand, missing or damaged shingles can also damage your roof.

4- Improperly installed skylights.

Poorly installed skylights can cause persistent wet spots on your ceiling and extra moisture. You can seal those cracks with a small layer of silicon, but it would be better for you to look for professional help.

5- Roof life expectancy.

Whether you have an old or new roof, wear and tear are unavoidable, which means that even the longest-lasting rooftops will eventually need to be replaced. In this situation, periodic inspection and maintenance can extend your roof lifespan.

5- Holes and damage.

Even the smallest hole can damage your roofing system. You can fix those holes with caulk and sealant, but please avoid walking on your rooftop because this can cause even more damage to your roofing system.
